Junior Women Record Third Successive Win At Fours Head |
The Fuller's Fours Head was held on Saturday 3rd November in good conditions over the familiar boat race 4 1/4 mile course (reverse direction) on the Tideway in London. The prestige of this race is illustrated by the fact that many Olympic stars were racing in their club crews in the Elite sections. This year over 450 crews took part.
Maidenhead Junior women entered 3 crews (out of a total entry of 21 crews ) into this years WJ18 event. Maidenhead have won this event for the previous two years, so the top crew of Katy Lion (steers) , Aimee Campbell (2), Sophie Delaney (3) and Ally Brooks (stroke) were under huge pressure to maintain Maidenhead's dominance, against stiff competition from top schools and clubs. |

On Saturday 20th October, Weybridge held the 51st Silver Sculls head race. Founded in 1956 it is the oldest race of its kind on the non-tidal reach of the Thames. Maidenhead's Bob Wilson was unopposed in Veteran I single sculls and completed the 3300m upstream course in 21:47. Tim Wildbore and George Poynter both enterd J18 single sculls. Tim finished in 9th place with a time of 16:02 and George in 20th place with 16:56 . In the after noon division they joined forces in a J18 Double Scull and finished 7th in 14:31 . |
|
Maidenhead entered 18 crews into Reading Small Boats Head, a 3300m downstream course. Pete Beaumont, competing in Vet B Single Sculls recorded the fastest Maidenhead time of 14:53.5. Unfortunately, there were no other Vet B sculls to compete against.
Proving that rowing is a family sport, Pete's son Jack was also competing, finishing 3rd in J15 Single Sculls in a time 16:17.7 which would also have placed him 3rd in the J16 category; and 4th in J15 Double Sculls in a time 15:01.3, which was 5 seconds faster that the winning J16 time.
All together, 11 of the crews finished in the top 3 of their categories. Results for MRC crews are shown below. |

Record Breaking Performance at Evesham Junior Head |
Last weekend, Jack Beaumont competed at Evesham Junior Head in two Maidenhead/Reading composite crews. Jack stroked the J15 2x with Max Rushent of Reading and they won the event by 34 seconds ahead of Hinksey Sculling School, breaking the course record in a time of 7min 59s. This is an impressive performance for Jack who is still only 13 and this time would have placed their crew second in the J16 2x event and 4th in the J18 2x event. This placed then in 24th position overall out of all of the quads and doubles.
Jack also teamed up with Reading in the J14 4x event and finished in third place in a time of 7min 53s, four seconds behind the winners from Evesham Rowing Club. |

Maidenhead Most Successful Club with 4 Wins At Pairs Head |
Maidenhead entered 8 crews in this year's Pairs
Head of the River Race held in London over a 4000 metre course from Chiswick
Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge on Saturday 6th October. This is a major event in
the calendar for crews to establish how well they are going against other top
athletes across the country. Amazingly, for a non-tidal club, Maidenhead ended
up the most successful club with four wins at this prestigious event. Our
winners were:
S2 2x: Phil
Clapp and Carl Delaney (Notts Uni), 12min 43s (3rd fastest
overall); WS2 2x: Vicky Sims and
Natalie Trinder, 14min 22s; (Sims won mixed doubles
last year with Clapp) WJ18 2x: Sophie
Delaney and Ally Brooks, 14min 19s; (Brooks'
fourth consecutive win at this head) WJ16 2x: Gabby Watson and Fifi Bevan,
15mins 4s.
Louise Entwistle (now competing for ULBC) with her former GB
doubles partner Ruth Walzac were the fastest WElite 2x (13min 47s), though
they were listed as a "time only" entry, forfeiting the pennant. |
