The Veteran Women's Squad was created by and for women over 35 years of age who wish to row seriously and competitively.
We are a set of multinational women with busy family, work and social lives who when we row, wish to put extra effort in and have an ultimate goal of winning a race.
Most of our squad are made up of women who took up rowing in later life, but does include those who have rowed in their youth and after a break are returning to the sport.
Winter Training We row on the water every Saturday and Sunday morning which can be dependent on weather conditions. We work hard to keep up our fitness and build stamina by following an indoor rowing machine (ergo) training schedule, as designated by Concept 2 for women of our ages, on a Monday and Thursday night at 6:30pm. We also have the option of taking part in the ‘all squads’ circuit training sessions that are held on a Tuesday night.
Summer Training We continue to row on the water at weekends, adding two evening outings, on Tuesday and Thursday between 18.30 and 20.00 (light permitting).
Racing We aim to enter Regattas (side by side races) and Heads (longer distance races against the clock) in events where categories appropriate to our ability are offered.
We race in fours (sweep oar rowing), quads and doubles (sculling). Occasionally we enter either an all female eight, or combine with the Veteran Men's Squad to enter a mixed eight.
Recent Wins During its first season of racing in 2006 the Veteran Women's squad enjoyed the folllowing wins:

Coaching We are currently coached by Alan Reeve, who divides his time between our squad and a junior squad.
Coxing Our aim is to be self-sufficient in coxing. Our current cox is Dawn Davies, but Dawn also has aspirations to win back her rowing seat in the crew so there will be an opportunity for someone else to cox. If anyone is interested in coxing for us please make contact initially with Dawn at: maranoa @ madasafish.com
Life at the Club An integral part of being in the VetWomens Squad is being part of the ‘club’. We support charity activities, participate in breakfast duties and club work days, and socialise at the many club events that take place. Our social secretary is Marion Holmes. Marion can be contacted at: marion.holmes @ btopenworld.com
Social We also organise our own social activities, which sometimes include sports. Cycling and swimming are two examples, but we also come together on occasions for dinner.

Interested in joining us? To be part of this squad, you must first have completed the full club learn to row course, secondly have successfully completed a capsize drill and finally shown ability on the indoor rowing machines.
If you would like to find out more, please contact either Suzanne or Anthea.
We look forward to seeing you!
