Maidenhead Volunteer For World Cup Print E-mail
Friday, 03 June 2005
Maidenhead Rowing Club volunteers were out in force at Dorney Lake, last week, acting as Volunteer Officials at the Bearings World Cup event. This demonstration of the club's volunteer ethic was particularly apt as 2005 is the 'year of the volunteer'. Many other members also went to Dorney to cheer on the GB team, support International Rowing and ultimately our bid to host the 2012 Olympics.

Our Volunteers included: Katherine Alington, Fifi Bevan, Lucy Brockwell, Anna Campbell Vicky Sprules and Rob Davies. Their duties included "walking" the pontoons in and out at the start; holding the boats; fishing out lost sunglasses and water bottles; helping out in the VIP enclosure; and helping out on the trade stands. Judging by the feedback heard so far it seems that the event was a great success. One of the FISA officials commented, "Dorney has set a new benchmark by which all other World Cup events will be measured". Well done to everyone who volunteered their help.
