David Jones and Sam Ashburner formed half of a composite quad who won the S2 competition at the Metropolitan Regatta on Saturday 4th June. This crew will form the basis of a challenge for the Fawley Cup at this year's Henley Royal Regatta.
The Maidenhead/Newark/Stourport composite led from the start but were chased hard by Tideway Scullers School. The crew maintained a 2 second lead for most of the 2000m course and crossed the line in 6:13.24, just 0.35s ahead of a strong finishing Tideway Scullers crew. Maidenhead's other S2 quad were off the pace on the day, finishing in 5th.
Elsewhere, the Women's S2 Quad sculled well but were out paced in their final. Sarah Archibald also sculled well to reach the final of Women's S2 single sculls, but didn't feature in the medals, and the Men's S3 Eight were narrowly denied a place in the final by a two foot loss to Manchester University in the repercharge.
