Stourport Regata August 14th
Matthew Reeve - J15 Single Sculls Over 3 heats his first round competition failed to turn up and was scratched. The second round was against Barnett of Stourport, which Matthew won comfortably by 3 lengths. In the final Matthew was against Thomas of Bewdley. Again he won very comfortably by 4 lengths.
Oxford City Regatta August 20/21, 2005
Maidenheads Junior Boys were entered into the Oxford City 2 day event. On Saturday, the course was over 1000m. An overcast day, with a slight breeze keeping the day cool for the rowers.
First was Matthew Reeve entered into the J16 single sculls. His first race was against Godsave of City of Oxford RC, which was won comfortably by 2 lengths. This set-up the final against Fussel of Wallingford. The race was fast and hard, but Matthew managed to pull ahead by the mid stage of the race to finish ahead by one length.
On Sunday the course was a shorter 500m. It was a good sunny day, with little wind.
In the J14 age group. Ross McCoriston competed in the Single sculls. He was against Hyman of Claires Court. Ross rowed a good race but just lost by 1 length.
The junior 16 single sculls, Maidenhead entered two athletes, Tim Wildbore and Matthew Reeve, 2 J15’s, rowing up a full year. Matthew Reeve faced off against Tom Skelton of Windsor Boys RC and after a hard start gaining a lead and unfortunately was failed by his steering, finishing a length and a quarter behind. Tim had a Bye into the final as his opposition, Ellam of Wallingford, scratched. Tim had a very hard race against Skelton but lost by 2 and a half lengths to the more experienced, older sculler.
In the Veteran C Category, Henry Cremin was given a bye in the first race. In the second Henry was against Morris of Bewl Bridge. Henry sculled well by was fooled by the bend at 150 meters and had to scull very hard to escape the trees. Morris went on the win the race.
In the Womans J12 category, Rebecca Reeve represented Maidenhead. Her first race was against Reading. The race was hard for both athletes, with Rebecca winning the semi-final by a length. The final was against Smith from Hinksey Sculling School. Again Rebecca had a fast start and led from the start to complete the course ahead by 4 lengths.
