Four Wins At Upper Thames Small Boats Head Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 November 2005
Maidenhead Rowing Club competed in 9 events at Upper Thames Small Boats Head. This timed head of the river event is held over 3km of the River Thames in Henley. Conditions were dry for the morning, but the weather turned wet and a head wind in the p.m. divisions made racing more difficult. All Maidenhead crews performed extremely well, and yet again it was good to see the club coming home with 4 event wins.

Alice Ancora and Rebekah Kerns are to be congratulated on winning the WJ15 doubles in a time of 13m48s (28s ahead of Headington school, Oxford). The Maidenhead 'B' crew of Maddie Reynolds and Aimee Broadbent, racing for the first time together, did well to finish 4th in a time of 14m47s.

Ally Brooks, Louise Entwistle, Sophie Delaney and Laurian Pepper won the WJ quad event in a time of 12m22s from the 'B' crew of Alice Ancora, Charlotte Weeks, Aimee Campbell and Caris Marsh in a time 12m38s. Both of these were well ahead of 2 strong Headington crews.

The quads then split into three doubles for the WJ category. Maidenhead took all 3 top places from Headington and UTRC . Louise Entwistle and Ally Brooks won the in a time of 13m02s; Caris Marsh and Laurian Pepper came second on 13m17s, and Aimee Campbell and Sophie Delaney third in a time of 13m33s.

Charlotte Weeks and  Jo Wright competed in WS3 double, and finished 6th in 15m02s.

The WJ14 coxed quad of Fifi Bevan, Anna Campbell, Emma Kerns and Hannah Shimmin with cox Carmel Bevan, finished 4th to some strong crews from Henley and Headington school, in a time of 14m24s.

Maidenhead’s fourth win was earned by Keri Johnson, Yasmine Finnegan, Oli Sparks, Anne-Fleur van Diem and Owen Davies (cox),  in the Womens S2 4+, where they tied for first place with Milton Keynes in a time 13m25s.

The Women's S2 4x finished 3rd in 12m26s, the WS2 2x finished 2nd in 13m12s, WS3 4x finished 3rd in 13m07s, and the WS3 4+ finished 10th in 14m14s.

The men's quad finished 12th overall and 5th in their S2 category in a time 10m59s. The men's S2 4- finished 5th in 11m47s and the S2 4+ finished 8th in 12m09s.
