Junior Coaches Awarded National Coach of the Year 2005 Print E-mail
Sunday, 18 December 2005
Maidenhead Rowing Club's junior Coaching team has been judged by the Amatuer Rowing Association's National Coaching Committee as the top rowing coaching team for 2005. The Awards Ceremony took place at the 2006 ARA National Coaches Conference on January 28th/29th in Daventry and the presentation was made by Steve Gunn.

The ARA has particularly noted that on the girls coaching side Maidenhead has been increasingly winning at top events Nationally for the past few years. During 2005 the junior girls section won a club record of 6 National titles at National Championships plus one Silver. Maidenhead junior athletes went on to represent GB at Munich Regatta, GB France, Coupe at Eton and at the Home Countries in Cardiff, Maidenhead had two crews selected - one for England and the other representing Scotland. The club also sent along its Advanced junior squad to Ghent International Regatta for the first time in 2005 and came back as the most successful UK club.

Billy Brooks Captain of Juniors at Maidenhead Rowing Club was delighted to hear this news and said "We are fortunate to have many coaches at the club who are dedicated to providing quality coaching to help individuals progress to whatever standard they are comfortable with. What has been recognised is that Maidenhead is seen as a centre of excellence and has a coaching structure in place that can take on beginners and move them through various stages leading to GB representation. Of course the coaching job is made that much easier when having such outstanding athletes who can consistently train and perform well. As well as taking on a new stream of athletes at the bottom end in 2006 we will be aiming for representation at all 3 major 2006 International junior events which include GB France in July, Coupe and the Junior World Championships in Amsterdam in August."

Maidenhead Coaches specifically mentioned as contributing to the junior team success in 2005 are Laura Lion, Maggie Bevan, Sean Kerns, Orlando Fricker, Simon Ramskill and Billy Brooks.
