Saturday 26th May saw the Senior Women's Squad notch up their second win of the season at Twickenham Regatta. The WS2 crew of Alison Evans, Anne Rees, Claire Wallace and Keri Johnson, coxed by Vickie Sims, saw off local club Staines in the heat to go through to the final against their neighbour Marlow Rowing club. Despite a good performance from Marlow, Maidenhead established a strong lead from the start which Marlow were unable to respond to. Maidenhead took first place with a time of 5.03 minutes.
The Women's Novice Double Scull race for Maidenhead produced a resounding performance from Natasa Lakovic and Rosemary Elder, whom despite an emergency stop half way through the race to repair a gate, managed to claw back a significant margin on their opposition to finish only half a boat length down from the winners.
Meanwhile in a nail biting final of the WS3 8+, Maidenhead led rivals Thames Rowing Club for most of way. With strong support from competing neigbouring clubs, the race finished with Maidenhead just losing by a very slender 3 feet! The crew will be looking for revenge at this weekend's Metropolitain Regatta held at Dorney Lake. |
