With only days to go until Women's Henley (22nd - 24th June), the WS2 4+ crew of Helen Stewart, Anne Rees, Claire Wallace, Keri Johnson and Vickie Sims (cox), decided to test their readiness at Reading Amateur Regatta on Saturday, over the 1100m downstream course.
Despite going straight into a semi-final against Llandaff and feeling the nerves of a pre-Henley build up, the Maidenhead crew quickly settled into a strong race pace, taking a comfortable win in the end and a place in the final against University College Dublin - not an opponent to be taken lightly. With a few words of inspiration from their cox, the crew were pushed hard all the way but finished 1.5 lengths ahead of UCD, to take the honours.
The crew will be competing in the Intermediate Fours at Women's Henley, starting this Friday with time trials in the morning taking the fastest 32 crews through. The true racing gets underway from 2pm onwards and all support is welcomed. With the success of the last few weeks, hopes are high for a strong showing in the competition.
