ImageWins for Senior Women, Senior Men and Junior Boys
Maidenhead Rowing Club sent a large contingent of senior, veteran and junior rowers to Abingdon Head on Sunday 19th April. This is the last head race before the start of the regatta season, held over 4 divisions on a 2000m course with a tricky bend in the middle. Conditions were good with generally low wind and the sun came out in the afternoon.

Senior Women
The fast-improving senior women's squad turned in some quick performances winning the Intermediate 2 Double Scull and the Intermediate 2 Women's Quad events . The latter crew was awarded the Buckler Cup as the fastest women's boat of the day in a time of 8 minutes 24 seconds.

Maidenhead's Novice Women's Coxed Four performed impressively, rowing twice and finishing both first and second in their event well ahead of the rest of the large field of 10 crews.

Senior Men
The Intermediate 2 Men's quad was the fastest Maidenhead crew of the day, winning their event in a time of 7 min 44 seconds.

Veteran women
The veteran C/D/E women's quad of Maggie Hendry, Aileen McGovern, Marion Holmes and Denise Moulton won their event convincingly. Despite suffering from a bad cold Maggie maintained a fine stroke rate all the way finish with a time of 9.08. The veteran handicap adjustment to 8.53 wasnt needed to ensure a win in a field of four.

Veteran Men
The Veteran D men's best performance came in the eight where they finished second, just 9 seconds behind winners Wallingford.

Junior Boys
The junior boys had a successful day with one win and two second place finishes.

In the J13 double scull Lewis Morgan, Oliver Palmer were winners in a time of 9:06. This was an strong performance that would have placed them highly in the J14 or J15 2x categories In theJ14 double scull Josh Taylor, Will Brockwell came second behind Wallingford and theJ14 coxed quad (Josh Taylor, Will Brockwell, Connor Lane, Ruairi Evans plus cox Oliver Palmer) came second to Wallingford (again!)

Junior Girls
No wins were recorded by the junior girls, but with several racing in their first head race, there were some very good performances.

Notably the WJ15 coxed quad (Ciara Haughey, Adriana Renucci, Alicia Wiltshire and Caitlin'O'shea, coxed by Danielle Blakeslee) came second, overtaking local rivals Eton Excelsior in the process. Ella Campbell, rowing up a year finished third in the WJ14 single sculls event.
