Two wins for Maidenhead RC at Marlow Town Regatta Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 June 2009

ImageMarlow Town Regatta took place on Saturday 13th June over a 900m downstream course in good conditions. The river is wide enough at Marlow for three boats to race side-by-side where the number of competitors demanded.

Maidenhead Rowing Club sent a small contingent of junior crews and came away with two wins.

Girls

The WJ15 coxed quad of Emily Birch, Zoe Broadbent, Grace Alington and Hannah Wallace, coxed by Adam Bowler raced in the 'A' event. In the semi-final they defeated the local Marlow RC crew by two lengths. In the final against Royal Docks RC they stretched away to a comfortable 2 1/2 length victory.

The WJ18 Double Scull of Aimee Broadbent and Ailsa Buck won their semi-final comfortably against Royal Docks RC and Sir William Perkins School. They led the final against the Sir William Borlase crew until halfway but were overhauled in the second half of the race. Nevertheless this was a good performance as Ailsa Buck is only now regaining fitness after a long term injury.

In the WJ17 Single Sculls, Jess Kemple competed in the semi-final against Bryanston School and Bewl Bridge RC but did not reach the final.

Boys

The J14 Coxed Quad of Lewis Morgan, Josh Taylor, Michael Corio, Will Brockwell and cox Caitlin O'Shea won the "B" event. In their heat, they comfortably beat crews from Latymer and Canford School. In the semi-final they had a hard race against Upper Thames and Magdalen College before eventually pulling away to win by three lengths. In the final they came up against Sir William Borlase and another crew from Canford. The race was tight for the first 500m before Maidenhead pulled away to win by two lengths.

Rowing a year up in the J14 Single Scull "B" event, Lewis Morgan won through a heat and a semi-final to get to the final against Windsor Boys and RGS Wycombe. In what was his sixth race of the day, Lewis put up a good performance before eventually having to settle for third place. In the same event Michael Corio came second in his semi-final to the eventual winner, Iqbal from RGS.

The J14 Double Scull of Josh Taylor and Will Brockwell won their heat against Latymer and Marlow but had to settle for second place to Canford in their semi-final.

The Claire's Court composite Coxed Quad of Dominic Holden, Mike Trevena, Alex Rollins, Aaron George and cox came up against a strong Windsor Boys crew in their heat. They performed well, pushing Windsor hard all the way before eventually losing by 3 feet.

The new Maidenhead J16 Quad crew had a straight final against Windsor Boys. In another close race Windsor Boys eventually won by a length.
