James and Jamie are the youngest and lightest pair to row from Australia to Mauritius! Print E-mail
Sunday, 09 August 2009
Congratulations to Jamie Facer-Childs and James Thysse who became the youngest rowers (age 21) to row 3,600 miles from Geraldon in Australia to Grand Bay in Mauritious. Many people in Maidenhead helped them towards their epic journey. Maidenhead Rowing Club helped them to get the basics of rowing and I gather Maidenhead Sailing Club and Marlow Boat Services (in Maidenhead) also did a great deal to help them on their way and it is so gratifying to know they made it to the end when over half the boats failed to make it.

You can see more information about their achievement on their website listed below:

http://www.oztoafrica.com/

They both did this in aid of two charities, Sparks (a charity dedicated to funding pioneering paediatric research) and Headway (the Brain injury association)

They still have a long way to go to achieving their fund raising target so if anyone wants to donate to their causes then please do so here:

Well done guys We look forward to seeing you when you get back to the UK after all your celebrations and a bit of fattening up after your limited rations.
