Over the week 0f 2nd-5th September four former junior athletes from Maidenhead Rowing Club represented their British Universities in the European Universities Sports Association Rowing Championships held on Lake Goplo, Kruszwica, Poland.
The strength of the opposition was commented on by the British team manager Ian South who said many of the teams in Kruszwica had also competed at the World Rowing Championships in Posnan only the week before. This was the creme de la creme of European rowing and 25 out of the 35 crews from the 18 Universities representing British Universities, progressed to the A finals on Lake Goplo.
Tough weather conditions on the Lake didnt stop Louise Entwistle from winning a Silver medal in the Womens Quad for University of London. Max Gerrard also won Silver for the University of Birmingham in the Lightweight Mens Quad. Laurian Pepper won Bronze in the Womens Lightweight Double for Loughborough University. Natalie Trinder (University of the West of England) competed in the Lightweight Single Sculls and had to settle for third in the B final. This event was won by a Polish sculler, who only the week before had won silver at the World Cup.
