Maidenhead Rowing Club entered 5 crews in this years pairs head of the river race held in London over a 4000 metre course from Chiswick Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge.
This is a major event for crews to establish how well they are going against other top athletes across the country. Racing conditions were tough, the race was delayed by 30mins due to strong winds. 368 crews entered this event. Star performance on the day came from Ally Brooks and Louise Entwistle who not only won their WJ16 division by 36 secs from LEH but also beat all the womens doubles in the older WJ18 category. This was an excellent achievement to see this young crew perform well, above their age group, and record faster times than the likes of Newark who represented GB at the Anglo-French match last year. This crew has recently received a helping hand as they have been provided sponsorship in the form of a new boat to help them perform at the highest levels. In this new ERB International racing boat sponsored by Global Currency Exchange and Sports Match they now have the equipment to compete at the highest levels. With impressive wins at Wallingford and now the Pairs Head this crew are now on their way to challenge for a GB vest in 2005. Summary of Maidenhead placings at the pairs head are as follows: David Jones and Sam Ashburner finished in fourth place in the Jun double division in a time of 13:57secs 22secs behind the winners from TSS/Windsor Boys.
Ally Brooks and Louise Entwistle won the WJ16 double division in a time of 15:29secs and this time would have won the Wjun 2x division. Sarah Archibald and Vicky Sims finished in fourth place in the Womens Senior 3 double division in a time of 15:40secs, 22secs behind the winners from Molesey. Al Cook and Hugh Jenkins finished ninth in the Veteran B/C division in a time of 15:46secs. Jo Wright and Natalie Trinder finished in fourth place in the Womens Jun 2x division in a time of 16:05secs, 28secs behind the winners from Latymer Upper School. Billy Brooks Captain Juniors |
