Maidenhead Rowing Club win 5 events at Upper Thames Small Boats Head Print E-mail
Sunday, 24 October 2004
Maidenhead Rowing Club competed in ten events at Upper Thames small boats head. This timed head of the river event was held over the historic Henley Royal regatta course. Conditions were dry for both the a.m. and p.m. divisions, however the head wind was noticeably much stronger in the afternoon divisions making the times much slower than the morning division times. The 2 mile upstream course was reduced by 400 metres at the start due to the difficult conditions. All Maidenhead crews performed extremely well and yet again it was good to see the club coming home with 5 event wins. Alice Ancora and Rebekah Kerns are to be congratulated on winning both the WJ15 doubles in a time of 15mins 24secs ( 9 seconds ahead of St Georges College ‘A’ crew) in the morning and then racing again in the afternoon to win the WJ14 doubles in a time of 16mins 33secs ( 65 seconds from Headington ‘A’crew). Ally Brooks, Louise Entwistle, Aimee Campbell and Charlotte Weeks won the WJ16 quad event in the morning division in a time of 13:25secs ( 2mins 35 secs from Sir William Borlase School). This quad then split into two doubles for the afternoon division. Louise Entwistle and Ally Brooks won the WJ16 2x division in a time of 14mins 47secs and Charlotte Weeks and Aimee Campbell came home in 2nd place in a time of 16mins 17secs in the WJ16 doubles event. Fith win came from the Mens Veteran ‘B’ double of Eric Sims and Rob Barker who had a good scull and finished in a time of 13mins 44 secs, 15 seconds ahead of Lymington RC to take the Vet B title. Other Maidenhead crews and finishing times were as follows: Leander/Maidenhead composite (Benn Webb, Dave Jones, Sam Ashburner, Keith Dixon) competed in the Mens Senior 2 quad sculls and came home in 3rd place in a time of 11mins 20 secs, 8 seconds behind Henley RC and 17 seconds behind Oxford Brooks. Laurian Pepper and Jo Wright competing in Junior Double sculls for the first time together, put up a very credible result finishing in 2nd place in a time of 14mins 46secs only 11 seconds behind the winners Sir William Borlase. Kerry Johnson and Heather Craig also put up a good performance to finish in 3rd place in a time of 14mins 58secs in the Womens Senior 3 division, 31 seconds behind the winners from Upper Thames RC ‘A’ crew. A very young WJ14 quad of Maddie Reynolds, Fifi Bevan (age 12), Lexy Dobson (age 13), Carmel Bevan (age 13) stroke with Lucy Brockwell as cox sculled very tidely over the course and finished in a time of 16mins 15 seconds to be placed a very credible 4th in this higher age group. GB Junior trails are taking place in Nottingham this week. Dave Jones and Sam Ashburner are attending the boys GB training camp with their coach Tom Jost Monday 25th October through to Wednesday 27th Oct. Natalie Trinder and Louise Entwistle are attending the girls GB training,
