This years Molesey Veterans
Head was well supported by Maidenhead RC Veteran Rowing squads who sent 2 fours
and an eight, held over a course of 3250 metres between Sunbury Lock and Molesey
Lock Although no wins were recorded it showed the improving strength, and depth
at all levels of the Veteran classes within Maidenhead RC.
The nearest win for the day was for the Vet D 4+ who came second in this category by only a margin of 4.1 seconds off the winning time. This also placed this crew 3rd overall in all the fours divisions. Novice cox Dawn Davies proved her abilities to steer an accurate course and drive the crew on despite the lack of a functional cox box.
The veteran men D 8 did well to come 6th in their division and in true Maidenhead RC veteran tradition had many novice rowers forming a crew with the more experienced members. This crew guided and spurred on by one of Maidenhead's most experienced coxes Fiona Truswell.
Also for the first time in this event Maidenhead entered a 4+ crew in the NEAR category. Although a mixed crew they did well to beat a NEAR category 8 by nearly 30 seconds, again spurred on by their novice cox and part time coach Henry Cremin. Like the juniors at Henley there were very strong windy conditions, however for the actual race it was a tail wind which provided very exhilarating racing conditions in very rough water. Enjoyed by all.
Vet D 8 time 10.29.9 (Winner: Quintin, time 9.41.8)
Vet D 4+ time 10.44.5 (Winner: Broxbourne, time 10.40.4)
NEAR 4+ time 12.32.6 (No other crews entered in this category)
