The Recreational Squad or Rec Squad as we call it was established by the club to cater for the increasing number of individuals who wanted to row, or continue to learn to row, but did not wish to row competitively. We have roughly an equal number of men and women of all ages who enjoy rowing or sculling in all sizes of boats whenever they can.. The Rec Squad is the ideal place for members that like to enjoy the exercise, without causing their lungs and heart to burn in the process! Recsquad Activities

In the summer we tend to row at the weekends and if possible at least twice a week in the evenings, after which we make use of the other excellent club facilities (i.e. the bar!). The club has a strong social side, and social activities are an important part of the Recreational Squad's activities as well. These include the odd dinner out at a suitable restaurant or pub, barbeques, parties, balls, trips away, quiz nights, etc. You can see some pictures and video of some of our activities here. In the winter the river can be too high to row on. Fortunately, we are situated just 2 miles from the excellent facilities of Dorney Lake, which is not affected by high rainfall, so we are still able to row. In addition to this, the club has 17 Concept 2 ergo meters (rowing machines) and weight training equipment, and we also have occasional visits to an indoor rowing tank at Docklands and Oxford University. In addition to the usual water sessions, we also have day or weekend rows down or up the Thames, plus there are sometimes offers of other non rowing activities such as skiing (water or snow) etc.
